Sunday, 2 January 2011

As a part of your regular computer maintenance you should consider uninstalling programs that you are no longer using.  Uninstalling these programs that you no longer use can be beneficial to your computer's performance.  The reason being is that many of the programs today have tasks that run in the background all of the time.  Those background tasks are taking a small piece of your computer's memory and processing power.

To uninstall programs from your Windows 7 computer:
  • Start by clicking the start button or start orb.
  • Click on Control Panel.
  • Assuming your Control Panel shortcuts are in Category View click on Uninstall a Program.

  • The Uninstall or change a program window will pop up.  This may take a moment to load the list of all the programs installed on your computer.
  • From this list find the program that you wish to uninstall and click on it.
  • At the top of the list click on the Uninstall button.

  • Depending on the program you may have some additional windows come up that ask you if you are sure that you want to uninstall or ask you if you want to remove user data that goes with the program.  You will have to use your own discretion regarding this when removing programs.
  • Once the uninstall completes the program is no longer on your computer.
