You may feel vinyl records have the edge over digital music for sound quality, but there’s no excuse for keeping cassettes around. They didn’t sound great when new, and they age poorly. Playing and rewinding stretches the tape, and sound quality degrades even when tapes are left sitting around – as we discovered when trying to find test cassettes. Digitope’s Cassette to CD and MP3 aims to digitise your tape collection before it’s too late, and also has some vinyl-specific features.
Everything you need is in the box – along with the program CD you get a female 3.5mm to twin RCA adaptor, a metre-long 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable and a 1/4” to 3.5mm adaptor plug. Together these should let you record from most tape or vinyl sources, and would cost you around £10 from Maplin on their own.
