The majority of information regarding Microsoft’s upcoming operating system Windows 8 has to be taken with a grain of salt. Why? Because the information usually come from third parties and Microsoft’s policy is to never comment on rumors and third party news.
Windows 8 Milestone 2 has been compiled by Microsoft according to the website Windows 8 Beta which reported on it on January 1.
The information posted basically state that Microsoft has moved to build numbers tarting with 6.2.79xx which indicate Milestone 2 releases. Milestone 1 releases are using the slightly different build number 6.2.78xx.
The latest known build was build 7904 which was compiled on December 16. It is likely that Microsoft has moved ahead in the last two weeks.
If you draw comparisons with the Milestone 2 phase of Windows 7 you could argue that Windows 8 will be released in the next 15 month if development goes ahead as planned. Windows 7 Milestone 2 was created in July 2008 and the release of the operating system came 15 months later in October 2009.
Will Microsoft release Windows 8 in the middle of 2012? Or will they spend more time on the operating system and release it at the end of the year just as they did with Windows 7?
