All Nokia N900 owners I’ve met love their stellar smartphone. Let’s face it – the user interface is not on par with what the iOS and Android-based smartphones are offering, but the N900 is more hackable than any other handset on the market.
That said, we’re glad to report that someone managed to port Android 2.3 Gingerbread to Nokia’s last Maemo baby. That someone is Russian coder Alexey Roslyakov, who is better known under the nickname DrunkDebugger.
The sad news is that you can’t install Gingerbread on your N900 right now. However, you will be able to do that in less than a week when the software is completely optimized to sing along N900′s hardware. At the moment, Gingerbread can work with sound, cellular and WiFi connectivity with the rest being in development as we speak.
And if that’s too experimental for you, there’s the Android 2.2.1 Froyo port which should be available within next few days…
