Maptor Handheld Map Projector

Tuesday 28 December 2010

In Japanese Maptor means ominous robot bent on world domination, which isn’t a perfectly accurate translation but gets most of the meaning across. The Maptor device, on the other hand, has less of an overpowering feel about it, though if you’re an archeologist used to poring over paper maps, getting to use Maptor will probably make you mad with power.
The difference between having to unfold and refold paper maps, and just projecting one on any surface from this flashlight-like device is huge. Billions of applications come to mind, from travel to construction to projecting graffiti outlines on walls for quicker tagging.
Just kidding. The GPS function that’s included is no joke though, and it’ll pin-point your location on any map which includes it.
